One of the most rewarding aspects of speaking with people on the doorsteps is to identify a real need and do something about it.

Over the last few months my team and I were shocked at how many mums we were meeting whose children had recently been diagnosed with autism. As a mum of an autistic child, I know that this can be a bewildering and anxious time. The result can quite often mean that one feels isolated and reluctant to get out the way other mums do each and every day with their children.

Well, if the sounds like you fret no more; liberation is here.

Our campaigner in Fair Oak and Horton Heath Chris Rhodes and I have now launched Lapstone Ladies. We meet once a month for a night out and take our children out for the day together each month too. Last time we spent a day at Paultons Theme Park and everybody agreed that it was a relief to go out and do the things that many people take for granted!

We are inviting ladies from all over the Eastleigh constituency to come and join us. So, if you have a child with special needs and are a mum, grandmother or carer, and you’d like to be a part of this lively group of champion ladies do get in touch with me, Maria.

David Cameron has identified special needs education as a priority policy area. Indeed, David and I are determined to make life a lot easier for families with special children when it comes to getting the best education for their child. If you want to know more contact me on the email or phone number above.

Lapstone Ladies: UPDATE!

Peter Byrne, Organiser of the superb Eastleigh Charity Liberty Child, didn’t waste any time contacting Lapstone Ladies when he read about the launch in our Fair Oak edition of our CHANGE newspaper.

• HOLIDAYS: Liberty Child have offered all autistic children of the Lapstone Ladies a week away with carers and nurses.

• Special Child: One of our children needs a special chair costing hundreds of pounds and Peter Byrne is trying to raise the money for him.
