Campaigns - In It 2ogether

In It 2ogether is an awarding winning social action programme we are running in the Eastleigh constituency.

This innovative and exciting project
has two objectives:-
1. To bring young people and senior citizens of Eastleigh together
2. To support the forces and their families

Much of what has made this country so great has been our sense of community and family. Sadly there has been a breakdown of society and, due to economic pressures and changing demographics, we have lost the benefits that the extended family can bring. Many grandparents no longer live near their grandchildren and families have become isolated.

Young people are expected to respect their elders and yet some know very little about what so many older people have done for this country and why they should show respect.

Indeed, speaking to several teenagers, they often argue that there is an assumption that they are all up to no good and that elderly people even cross the road to avoid them, when they’re not up to anything at all.

Elderly people tell me that they’re often frightened to leave their home for fear of crime and are nervous about even walking near a group of teenagers; and that they are lonely as a result.

This project aims to build community spirit, create an extended family group and combat loneliness for at least some of the senior citizens of Eastleigh. The group then extends this sense of community by reaching out to the forces and their families and helping them through a variety of projects.

The first project we ran was a “Christmas Comfort Party”. Junior school children from Fair Oak Junior School and our Seniors made funky Christmas cards, wrote letters and took silly photos of themselves to send to the forces serving overseas during the Christmas season.

We were extremely proud to win a National Excellence Award for the project and are now onto the next leg of In It 2ogether. The plan is top secret and very exciting. This time our Seniors have teamed up with a local youth club to do something extra special!
